Shonen Jiu Jitsu kids classes are available for children and teens, ages 5-7 and 8-12 in our safe, clean, state-of-the-art training facility.
Why choose Jiu Jitsu for my child over other martial arts?
Jiu Jitsu has a strong focus on controlling situations as safely as possible. Unlike most other martial arts with punching and kicking, Jiu Jitsu allows the opportunity for live sparring against fully resisting opponents without the risk of brain damage from a punch of kick to the head.
Your child will be well prepared to deal with bullies or an attacker as it won’t be the first time someone has put their hands on them. At Shonen, we will teach your children the necessary skills to stand up for themselves.
Jiu Jitsu is also a great sport and athletic endeavor for your child. Our instructor has an outstanding pedigree and has trained kids to become some of the world’s greatest Jiu Jitsu athletes.
What are the benefits of Jiu Jitsu?
Confidence – While developing the skills to defend themselves, kids become more confident and empowered. The knowledge that they can perform complex moves, stand up for themselves, and master a difficult art builds a resilient character ready to take on the world.
Commitment – Shonen builds commitment through showing kids that the effort of acquiring new skills and techniques pays off when they are able to apply them against their peers. Jiu Jitsu builds resilience because it requires physical conditioning, a commitment to advancing, and persistence in the face of adversity.
Fitness – Jiu Jitsu allows children to develop flexibility, stamina, strength, and balance. Younger children start cultivating these skills gradually with games and movement drills, while older kids further grow by sparring.
Teamwork and Social Skills – Our classes are made up of partner drills, team building exercises, and fun games that let kids work together, build friendships, and compete with peers while progressing and reaching new achievements.
Kids Jiu Jitsu
This kids program ranges from kids 5 to 7 years old and 8 to 12 years old and is designed to create a fun and inviting social atmosphere while instilling core values such as discipline and respect into the students.
Younger students will focus on mobility and improving coordination. Though we have students in this program that compete as well, our main objective is to combine Jiu Jitsu drills with entertaining games that will keep them amused while at the same time help them learn the foundations of Jiu Jitsu. They will gain tools necessary to defend themselves in the instance they are bullied.
As students mature, they will develop a greater understanding of jiu jitsu, all while building their own confidence. Older students will learn competition rules and strategies with a greater focus on the sport of jiu jtsu.
